We're past the point where teams will covet Ben Simmons the player, but there could be some interest as an expiring contract.
The three-time All-Star, 27, will be on an expiring $40.3 million contract during the 2024-25 season, and a lot of teams could use that kind of money falling off of their salary table before the free-agent summer of 2025.
Players like Jayson Tatum, Jalen Brunson, Donovan Mitchell, Jamal Murray, Jimmy Butler, Kyrie Irving, Brandon Ingram, Lauri Markkanen, Julius Randle, Paul George and Derrick White could all be unrestricted free agents, setting up the best class we've seen in a long time.
It would take the right team to be willing to take a chance on Simmons and his on-going back problems, and there would need to be significant financial motivation to bring in his expiring deal as well.
