Cardinals veteran Albert Pujols hit his 696th career home run Saturday night, matching Alex Rodriguez for fourth-most home runs in MLB history.

The historic homer came in the top of the sixth inning on the first pitch of his at-bat against Pirates starter JT Brubaker. Pujols’ two-run homer tied the game at 3-3.

It marked his second home run of September and his tenth since the start of August as the 42-year-old has been in the midst of a late-career power surge.

With Pujols tied with Rodriguez, the only hitters ranking above Pujols are Babe Ruth (714), Hank Aaron (755) and Barry Bonds (762).

The future Hall of Famer is expected to retire at the end of the season.
