The Chicago Sky fell 88-75 to the New York Liberty on Tuesday night despite getting positive contributions from rookie forward Angel Reese and dynamic guard Chennedy Carter.
The Sky outscored the Liberty by 15 points in the second quarter to make things interesting heading into halftime. New York was clinging to a 49-48 lead.
The 2023 WNBA runner-up reasserted itself in the third quarter, jumping back ahead by double digits and didn't look back.
Carter is off to her best start ever and successfully adapting to a reserve role in Chicago's rotation. That continued Tuesday as she came off the bench to score 16 points in 26 minutes on the floor. She also finished with three rebounds and three steals.
With the Sky in a rebuild, this year is all about developing their draft picks and seeing which veterans might fit into their long-term plans. It looks like Chicago found something with Carter.
Her performance was all the more impressive given the tenor behind some of the discourse surrounding her flagrant foul on the Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark last Saturday.
Tanisha Thomas @tanishajanaeSwear things shift when Carter gets on the court. She brings the energy for sure.
Jemele Hill @jemelehillI'm guessing it's been a rough couple days for Chennedy Carter, but she is showing some serious resolve. She's played an incredible first half against the Liberty. Has 15 so far and helped them climb out of a double-digit lead. Lost in all the conversation is that she is a…
Chris Williamson @CWilliamson44What they gonna say about Chennedy Carter now ? They thought she was some nobody who wanted to get buck with CC for some shine. Lmaoo. Idiots.
adrianna 🪩 @adriannaaepChennedy Carter took all that hate over the last few days and injected it into her veins. She is running on pure revenge and the Liberty can't stop her. I LOVE IT! #WNBA
Detroit Shock Water Girl @p_to_the_j_when yall talk about chennedy, make sure yall mention how nobody can guard her
Ricky O'Donnell @SBN_RickyChennedy Carter rules, what a great signing. Sky needed a dynamic guard like her so badly
Myles @MylesEhrlichSeeing Chennedy hoop again — and *like this* — is really cool. The talent has always been there, and she's making the most of this opportunity with the Sky.

Reese, meanwhile, maintained what has been solid level to open the 2024 campaign, though her game came to a premature end as she was ejected after picking up two technical fouls with 2:31 left in the contest.
She nonetheless had her second double-double (13 points and 10 rebounds) and recorded her first career block.

kimberly. @problemsthotsangel reese is the best offensive rebounder this game has ever seen.
27 @27woorldAngel Reese defense , toughness and rebounding translated beautifully to the WNBA . Hopefully she studies Aja Wilson all offseason and adds more to her offensive game .
Elaquent™ @ElaquentIf Angel Reese can develop a mid range jumper, she'll be a problem
jeff @DedicationHoopsangel reese/kamilla cardoso twin towers front court moves me so much in the future
Courtside Kenny @courtsidekennyAngel Reese is a second half player. She always looks a step quicker.
Richard Cohen @RichardCohen1I mean this in only a positive way - there's a lot of Plenette Pierson in Angel Reese. #WNBA
The Sky hit the road to play the winless Washington Mystics on Thursday at Capital One Arena. It will be a homecoming of sorts for Reese, who's a native of Randallstown, Maryland, and grew up about an hour away from Washington, D.C.
Considering the Mystics moved the contest from its usual home, Entertainment and Sports Arena, to a much larger venue, Reese is likely to have a lot of fans cheering her on.
