On Wednesday the New York Giants reportedly hired offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo to be their new head coach after Tom Coughlin stepped down on Jan. 4, reported Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
"McAdoo has been highly thought of throughout the process. Giants very much want to keep him. Set for the ultimate promotion tomorrow," reported Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. La Canfora added he will officially be named the new coach on Thursday.
Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, citing two team sources on Jan. 10, reported McAdoo and Jacksonville Jaguars assistant head coach and offensive line coach Doug Marrone "have emerged as the early favorites" for the head coaching vacancy.
McAdoo will have quite an act to follow. Coughlin guided the Giants to two Super Bowl triumphs over the mighty New England Patriots during his tenure.
Among the coaching vacancies around the NFL, New York may well have been the most attractive one. A legitimate franchise quarterback in Eli Manning is in place, along with a superstar wideout in Odell Beckham Jr.
