Gareth Southgate had an almost complete complement of players to work with during England’s training session on Monday — with only Ben White missing.

Arsenal defender White missed the session through illness.

Midfielder James Maddison, who has not been involved in either of England’s games at the World Cup so far, was also involved in the group session. The 26-year-old trained with the players who did not feature against the United States on Saturday, and worked with the full group on Monday.

Maddison had been struggling with a knee injury he picked up in the last round of Premier League fixtures.

England take on Wales on Tuesday in their final group game at the World Cup. They only need a draw to guarantee their place in the last 16 of the competition — and avoiding a 4-0 loss would have the same result.

A win would ensure they finish top of the group and therefore receive a preferable fixture in the last 16.
