While the Atlanta Falcons still don't have a head coach in place amid their pursuit of Bill Belichick, a veteran quarterback is open to resuming his playing career with the team.

Cam Newton said during an appearance on Good Morning Football on Tuesday that the Falcons are the only team he would consider playing for if he returns to the NFL.

Newton explained that he's now at a point in his life where he doesn't want to be away from his family, who reside in Atlanta.

"Me having a family now, it's always been about family, and I don't see myself leaving Atlanta. If it's not Atlanta, I don't want to do it," he said.

Newton is one of the greatest dual-threat quarterbacks in NFL history, as he owns the record for most career rushing touchdowns by a QB with 75. The Falcons dealt with inconsistent quarterback play throughout the 2023 season behind Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke, so perhaps it would be wise to give Newton a look while he's interested.

The 34-year-old hasn't played in the NFL since he appeared in eight games with five starts for the Carolina Panthers in 2021. He played under Belichick when he played 15 games for the New England Patriots in 2020, going 7-8 as the team's starter that year.

While Belichick has had two interviews with the Falcons regarding their head coaching vacancy, The Athletic's Josh Kendall reported on Tuesday that Atlanta's pursuit of him has "lost momentum" over the past week while the team explores other candidates.

Whether or not Belichick is hired by the Falcons, Newton made it clear that he won't consider playing for any other team, so it will be interesting to see if he's able to earn a roster spot this offseason.
