Personal Statement

The person who inspired me to play volleyball is my dad. Not only did my dad play volleyball in high school but also in college at UCLA from 1977-1979. He used to tell me amazing stories of him playing volleyball that used to inspire me as a kid. However, I didn’t start playing volleyball until late in my Sophomore year in High School. I thought for a while it would be better to have my main sports be football and basketball, but after playing volleyball for fun in my Sophomore year I realized that this sport is not only really fun but also that I can play volleyball at a very high level. Since then I have fell in love with the game and I have dedicated myself to becoming the best player that I can possibly be. I have been doing this by not only playing club volleyball for SBVC, but also by getting a Strength and Conditioning Coach, Setting Coach and Defensive/Hitting coach. Ultimately I would like to become the most well rounded volleyball player I can be. On my profile I list myself as an opposite, however I like to position myself as a MOHOPPSetter (someone who can play Middle, Outside Hitter, Opposite and Setter), because in my first year of playing club I have played every position on the court other than libero. I really take pride in the fact that I can play all of these positions at a high level and I think it has ultimately accelerated my growth as a player. My ultimate goal is to be like my dad and to continue playing volleyball at a high level in college while getting a good education at whatever university I decide to attend.
