Personal Statement
My name is Danny Basile and I am a 16-year-old (Class of 2014) varsity football WR at Locust Valley High School in Locust Valley (Long Island), New York.
I have been a member of the varsity football team since the end of my Sophomore year, and became a starter as a Junior. I mostly play wide receiver and punt/kick returner because of my speed, but I also play free safety. I run a 4.62 40 yard dash, timed at the Nike Football Sparq Combine with an above average Sparq rating of wide receivers nationwide. During my Junior year, I had 6 Touchdowns on 22 Receptions for 282 Yards. Although my team is not much of a passing team and primarly run a power offense, I take every opportunity I can to make the most out of every recepton I make. Our team finished the 2012 season at 4-5 and went to the first round of the Nassau County Playoffs. As for my strengths on the field, they include great hands, great agility and changing direction, footwork, jumping catches, and making clutch receptions.
In addition to being a hard working player on the field, another strength I have been told I have is that I am a very coachable player and am very good at listening and changing what I have to do as quickly as I can. At the beginning of my Junior year, I was told by one of my coaches, who has been coaching football for 50 years, that I was one of 3 people that he knew and coached over the years who had the gift of being able to both catch a football, as well as having the speed to run with it, whereas most people display only one of those qualities.
To stay conditioned and to keep in shape, I do track during the winter (went to finals in County Championship for 55 meter dash), as well as lacrosse to keep me running and conditioned in the spring . During the summer, I am constantly up at the football field running pass routes with my QB and sticking to my football weight lifting routine at the school. This February I participated in the Nike Football Sparq Combine in Ohio to see my overall rating for myself as an athlete. My 40 Yard Dash was timed at 4.62 seconds, which placed me in the 97th percentile nationwide. My Agility Shuttle 5-10-5 run was 4.41 secs, my Vertical Jump was 26.1 inches, and my Power Ball Throw was 30 feet. My Overall Sparq Rating was a 65.76, and the average WR has a 59.59 Sparq Rating.
As for finding the right college, at this time I am open to any size school, as well as open to any geographical location. I would like to play on a college team that I can contribute the most to.
Thank you for taking the time to read my information.
