Personal Statement

I was always intrigued by sports growing up. I developed a competitive spirit from a young age due to my love of sport. More importantly, I learnt to be hard-working and team-oriented from a delicate age. My name is Elkana Mong’are, and I aspire to study at University that values sport. I am a talented soccer player with great potential.

As the sages coined it, charity begins at home. My family values and societal- perspective motivates me to initiate programs to better my neighborhood, my country and the world using my talents and skills learnt.

In my neighborhood, there is rich untapped potential for soccer in young aspiring children. Over the past few years, I have been recognized for my initiative to use my talent in soccer to train and coach them as well as providing tutelage for their academic work. I am also a volunteer at ‘Sheria Mtaani’ – an organization which offers free legal services to Kenyans living in slums who cannot afford these services. I ultimately goal is to pursue law, alongside soccer. I am certain that given the opportunity to pursue my a degree in Business Administration-Sports Administration, I will gain the necessary skills to impact more lives positively in my society.

In my schooling life, I have held the positions of Vice Captain of the Soccer Team since 2020, House Captain, Governor in year 8 and Dormitory table-leader in grade 9 and 10. I have also served in various leadership roles in my Church for the past 8 years. I have excelled in these roles in my academics. I graduated from “O” level among the top achievers in the Class of 2021, and I am looking forward to finalizing my Year 13 examinations in June 2023.

Networking and the various sports offered by the University will not only grant me the opportunity to learn from diversity but also shape and empower me to contribute to my country’s legal and sports management in future.
