Some people may find it hard to digest that Seth Green has been present and contributing in the entertainment and film industry for almost four decades. 

That is forty years of a career that has not only gathered success and fame for the artist but has made him collaborate in television, film, and video games as well. 

His recent assumed disappearance has been a point to wonder for someone who has been present and looming in the industry for such a long time. He has changed gears and directions and has stepped out of roles in front of cameras to roles behind them. 

Who Is Seth Green?

Seth Green’s full name is Seth Benjamin Gesshel-Green. He was born on 8th February 1974 which makes him 48 years old to date. 

He has been an actor with many projects and shifting directions now as a producer, director, and writer. He has also created many projects and co-created them too. 

From voicing Robot Chicken to directing its specials, he has also appeared in many films such as the notable Austin Powers series, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, The Lego Batman Movie, and many more. 

He has also appeared as Joker in the Mass Effect video games and as Howard the Duck in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films such as Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel, in the Disney animated series of it, Ultimate Spider-Man and What If ….? The Disney+ animated series. 

He has also written and directed his first film in the year 2019 which was titled Changeland.

Seth Green was born to Barbara Gesshel and Herbert Green. He was born in Overbrook Park, Philadelphia in Pennsylvania with his sister Kaela. He was raised Jewish, with him having a Bar Mitzvah ceremony too. 

His ancestral tree consists of heritage from Russia, Poland, and Scotland. 

Seth Green started to act from the age of seven with influences from Monty Python, Bill Cosby, and Caddyshack. He later changed his name legally to Seth Benjamin Green to more accurately represent him as his professional stage name.

Personal Life of Seth Green

Seth Green when asked about his religion stated that “God is, to me, pretty much an idea. God is, to me, pretty much a myth created over time to deny the idea that we’re all responsible for our own actions.”

Later, when asked he slightly modified his response to, “a deep belief in the divinity of the Universe, and I had no ability to really comprehend the scope or magnitude of all the things that I don’t understand.”

Seth Green got engaged to Clare Grant on New Year’s Eve in the year 2009. He then went on to marry her in Northern California on 1st May 2010. 

They both have worked together on many projects such as Robot Chicken, Changeland (his first written and directed film), and her wife’s Saber and “Geek and Gamer Girls Song” videos which are viral.

Life as an Actor

His first role was in the 1984 film which starred Rob Lowe and Jodie Foster titled The Hotel New Hampshire. 

He would later go on to have many appearances in various titles but his role which would earn him a career as an actor was Woody Allen’s Radio Days. He starred in the lead role of Joe when the film came out in the year 1987.

He would then again go on to star in various movies till his other significant role in the TV series IT. Based on the Stephen King novel, he would appear as Richie Tozier. Later, he would also have roles in Batman: The Animated Series, Beverly Hills, The X-Files, etc. 

He would then soon appear in Temporarily Yours, where he went on to play in every other household and then would appear in the infamous Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.

Seth Green then shifted his career to voice-over work over which he also garnered acclaim. In the year 1999, he portrayed Chris Griffin on Family Guy. This role would get him working on the show for over 300 episodes and for over twenty years.

Seth MacFarlane of the Family Guy said regarding Seth Green’s audition, “Everyone was coming in, doing surfer dude voices based on the look of the design. Seth was the only one who came in and did something way off the rails.” 

Seth Green himself on the audition and the role stated, “It was originally a sort of play on Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs and the original pitch was just so weird I guess everybody liked it.”

Robot Chicken – His Other Breakthrough

He would then go on to transition to full-time work as a voice-over artist and in the year 2005, would co-create, direct, and write the famous show Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken. 

Little did he know at the time that the show would go on to win three Primetime Emmys, Outstanding Short Form Animated Program, and would continue to run for around fifteen years.

Robot Chicken also has multiple spinoff specials set in the worlds of other universes such as Star Wars, DC comics, etc. 

The Return Of Dr. Evil – General Motors Super Bowl commercial

It was to the delight of all when Dr. Evil returned to the screens of this super bowl in a General Motors commercial. The stars added Mike Myers as Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers series with his ever-present gang No. 2 (played by Rob Lowe) and  Seth Green playing his son Scott. 

The Austin Powers villain in the commercial realized he was less evil than climate change. Well, according to General Motors that is. 

The menacing villain lures people to electric cards and discard usage of fuel, and then take over the world. The ad has gained considerable attention. 

This was a long time since Seth Green has undertaken another such spotlight role (although he has said he was up for another Austin Powers role as he would love the gang and come back as Scott).
