Who is Irwin Jacobs?

Irwin Jacobs is an American businessman and electrical engineer with a net worth of $1.74 billion. He co-founded Qualcomm in 1985, a global fabless semiconductor company that designs, manufactures, and promotes digital wireless telecommunications products and services. Prior to this, he worked as an Electrical Engineering Assistant and Associate Professor at MIT, where he also completed his S.M. and Sc.D. degrees in electrical engineering and computer science.

Jacobs has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field of telecommunications, including the National Medal of Technology and Innovation and the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal. He is currently the chairman of the board of trustees of the Salk Institute.

Jacobs has been married to Joan Klein since 1954, and they have four children together. They reside in La Jolla, California.
