Personal Statement

My name is Jacob Garza. I am about 5'10" and weigh about 170 lbs. I attend Veterans Memorial High School in Mission, TX the home of Tom Landry. I play with all my heart and with all I have.

As a Senior I would be classified as an athlete, however my primary position is defensive back (DB). I am most proud of recently playing in the Inaugural NUC All-World Gridiron Classic (NUC All-Star game) in Charleston, SC. I played with over 60 Division I verbal commits and had 6 tackles in only 17 plays as a DB. I was also named DB MVP at the NUC Top Prospect Camp in Norman, OK. I think my most impressive stats as Senior were: 91 Total Tackles, 5 Int's, 9 Pass Breakups, 3 Defensive TD's, 2 Blocked Punts, 2 Blocked FG's, and 35 receptions (21.23 yrd/rec). I also ran the 40 in 4.49 sec. Some of my top rewards were All-State honors my Junior and Senior years. I was named All-Valley Defensive player of the year and a member of the All-Valley team my senior year. My District honors include 1st Team Offense and 1st Team Defense as a Senior, 1st team Defense as a Junior, and 2nd Team Defense as a Sophomore.

The type of school I dream about going to is one where I can play football and get a great education. It is very important in my family to get a college education. For as long as I remember I have wanted to be a coach, so I want to major in Kinesiology. In my family it is all about hard work, committment, dedication, and faith which I will take with me wherever I attend school.

I love the game of football. I know my God given talent and want to do the most with it. My goal as a kid has always been to play college ball. When I was ten, my dad enrolled me in a full contact football for the first time and I could not get enough. I knew if I wanted to be as good as I had dreamed, it would take a lot of hard work and commitment. Five days out of the week I would practice in the blistering hot sun, working hard and always trying to improve. I continued this routine throughout Junior High and High School. When everyone else went home I was either on the field or in the weight room doing all I could to improve and make myself better. Every year that season ended, I could not wait for the next one to start.

My goals as an athlete are to play college football and play like a Division I athlete no matter where I am. I really believe I have the talent and will power to do so, and will do anything to accomplish my goals. I want to make a difference on my team and put Deep South Texas on the map. And again, it is important for me to get a college degree.
