Joe Westerman, a professional rugby player and two-time England cap, was caught performing a s*x act on a woman in a viral video. This event caused distress to his wife and team, resulting in an apology statement and suspension.

On Sunday night, a graphic seven second clip of Castleford Tigers loose forward Joe Westerman went viral on social media. 

In the video, the 33-year-old two-time England cap player was seen performing a s*x act on a woman as someone off camera asked if they could “have a go.”

The incident has caused immense distress to Westerman’s family, particularly his wife Lauren, 33. Posting on Twitter shortly after the video surfaced online, Lauren wrote: “Can I make this VERY clear that this is NOT me!!!!!! We have three children, one of whom is almost 15, and she doesn’t need to see things like this all over social media!”

Distraught mum-of-three Lauren told The Sun that she had been sent the video before it was posted online. 

She said: “I’m thinking about our children at the moment. To be honest none of this has sunk in yet. I’m trying to process what has happened.”

Her 15-year-old daughter also received criticisms from trolls who suggested that she would have “seen much worse” than the X-rated clip, which Lauren reacted strongly against with her remark: “I don’t even have words to reply to your comment apart from I’m worried at what things you watch if you think there are worse things than this for a child to see on social media of her dad.”

The footage was shot on the weekend days before the start of the Super League season. As punishment for his actions, Castleford fined Westerman and ordered him to carry out community service in order to educate young people about the effects of alcohol.

Additionally, he will miss their curtain-raiser against Hull as an effective suspension from his team.

In response to his actions, Westerman issued an apology statement expressing regret for what had happened and recognizing that he needed help with managing his alcohol consumption. 

However, despite issuing an apology and receiving punishment from both his club and wife (who has reportedly not spoken with him since then), Westerman will nevertheless have to bear with far-reaching consequences emotionally and possibly career-wise.

This unfortunate event has become exposed now thanks to social media’s power reach in today’s world.
