Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported a deal to send Lucroy to the Texas Rangers is "happening." Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News added that Texas also landed pitcher Jeremy Jeffress in the trade.
Grant reported Sunday that the Rangers were hoping to get pitching help from Milwaukee as part of the Lucroy trade. TR Sullivan of MLB.com reported Lewis Brinson and Luis Ortiz would be heading to the Brewers in exchange for Lucroy and Jeffress.
The appeal of Lucroy is clear: He has a .299/.359/.482 slash line along with 13 home runs and 50 RBI in 95 games this year. According to FanGraphs, only Buster Posey (19.4) has a higher WAR than Lucroy (13.4) among qualified catchers since 2013.
The 30-year-old also has a team-friendly $5.25 million club option for 2017, per Spotrac, so he isn't just a half-season rental.
