One of North Carolina’s most horrifying crimes was the 2011 Laura Ackerson murder by her ex-partner Grant Hayes and his wife, Amanda Hayes.

The couple’s Raleigh apartment was where Laura was murdered.

Her corpse was later chopped, kept in coolers, and dumped in a stream. The ninth season of See No Evil’s episode 7, ‘Final Offer,’ is about Laura Ackerson’s murder.

Laura Ackerson Murder: Brutal Killing & Chopping

Laura Ackerson was last seen On July 13, 2011, and is believed to have disappeared after telling a coworker that she would pick up her son from their father’s house.

When Laura did not turn up to work for 2 working days, the same co-worker filed a missing complaint.

The disintegrating remains of Ackerson were found on July 24, 2011, in a creek close to Richmond, Texas.

She was killed, dismembered, chopped, and immersed in the water so that the alligators could eat her body.

The cause of death was undetermined murder violence, according to an autopsy. The outcomes were consistent with a neck injury caused by suffocation or physical force.

The Police Investigation Revealed The Reason Behind Laura Ackerson’s Murder

The Police reported that the head was severed from the torso, which was found in two parts, and that the limbs and legs were hacked off from the body.

Her body pieces were dumped in the creek after traveling 1,200 miles to Texas in ice chests.

Authorities asserted that the Hayeses attempted to eviscerate Ackerson’s body in Richmond by dismembering it with a power saw and then cutting it up with muriatic acid.

For weeks, various body pieces continued poking from the lake.

The prosecution claimed that Laura Ackerson’s murder was caused due to the messy custody battle for the children during Grant Hayes’ 2013 murder trial.

The Trial And Arrest

In the murder trial of Laura Ackerson, former partner Grant Hayes and his wife Amanda were found guilty.

When a former prisoner living in the same building claimed that Grant Hayes admitted to strangling Laura Ackerson with his wife, the testimony led to Grant Hayes’ 2013 trial.

Additionally, the prosecution presented video evidence that showed Grant buying a saw, acid, and other damning things throughout the days after Laura’s abduction at various stores.

They said these compounds were used to separate the bodily parts of Laura and decompose her remains.

Grant was given a life sentence after being found guilty of first-degree murder. He is still imprisoned at the Caledonia Correctional Facility in Halifax County, North Carolina.

In the meantime, Amanda was found guilty of second-degree murder and given a 13–16 year sentence, with an additional 20 years for tampering with evidence.

She is still detained at the Anson Correctional Facility.

According to testimony from Karen Ackerson, sister of Laura Ackerson, Amanda confessed to killing Laura when they were having a furious dispute.

She was retried in 2018 on suspicion of tampering with evidence and received an additional 20 years in prison.

She is currently incarcerated at the Polkton, North Carolina-based Anson Correctional Institution for Women.
