Personal Statement

My name is Marissa Reber, and I am currently 17 years old. I am a Senior(Class of 2018) at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. My freshman year I had the opportunity of playing with varsity in post season, and as a sophomore I made the varsity team. This year I was voted Captain by my teammates.  I have been playing since 7th grade, and have a real passion for the sport. Outside of school hockey, I play for the field hockey club Central Penn Elite. I have also played for the Mavericks.  This will be my fourth season playing with them, and I have also attended NIT's (National Indoor Tournament) with this club team twice. I primarily play midfield, but I also have experience with defense and am always open to try new things. My stick skills, hard shots, and coachability, as well as my determination set me apart from my teammates. I am a team player, and I'm always determined to do my best and to help the team. Academically I hold a 3.87 GPA and I am taking numerous AP and honors classes. I strive to do my best on the field and academically, and am always open to feedback so I am able to better myself as a player and a student. Outside of school and hockey, I volunteer for the God Luv Ya Foundation, a foundation dedicated to bringing awareness and raising money for the research and treatment of cancer. I also volunteer for the Cumberland Valley Thon team to raise money for pediatric cancer.  Last summer I did an internship at Holy Spirit Hospital to learn more about the medical field.  In the past I played competitive club soccer, Allstar softball and also played the piano for 5 years.  I also enjoy spending time with friends and family. My athletic and academic experiences have taught me numerous life lessons such as commitment, dedication, determination, time management and teamwork, that I will carry with me for my entire life. Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or more information by my email, [email protected]. Thank you for your time and consideration!
