Personal Statement
I am a 5’8” junior from rural eastern Washington State.
I have been playing golf for many years but truly became committed to this sport when I joined my high school team during my freshman year. My greatest individual accomplishment in golf thus far, was winning the district tournament my sophomore year by shooting my best round of the season (an 81). That same year at the 1B/2B Washington State Tournament my team brought home a first place trophy with my sister placing 2nd and myself taking 8th.
The greatest attributes I have to offer your program are my abilities as a leader, my determination, and my enduring work ethic. I am the Vice President of my high school ASB, co-captain of our basketball team, and attended the 2011 WA/OR HOBY seminar (Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference). At the beginning of my sophomore year I made it my goal to be our district’s champion, to do this I had to beat the best player on my own team: my sister. Once I set a goal I am willing and capable to do whatever it takes to reach that goal and see it though. I have grown up on my family’s farm and have developed an exceptional work ethic because of the expectation to be a contributing member to the work that must be done in order for the crops to come in. I understand the value of responsibility.
I want to go to a school that can offer me a great education and allow me to pursue my passion for golf. My academics are very important to me and I take my grades seriously, I want to be successful not only in college but also in life. To me it is vital to be able to attend a school that can allow me to play a sport that I love and give me an excellent education, preferably in the field of Journalism. The size of the school does not matter to me, but it would be great to be able to attend a college in the western region of the U.S.
My goal as an athlete is to play at the highest level of competition I can and make a positive impact on a team.
