Personal Statement

My name is Morgan McDonough and I am a 5’8” Outside Hitter/DS. I am a very disciplined student athlete and I work as hard in the classroom as I do on the court.

My key strengths are:

·         Volleyball IQ

·         Coachable

·         Team Player

I fell in love with volleyball during spring break when I was 9 years old and now at 16 years old I am still playing.  I have been playing competitive volleyball for 7 years.  I have been on Varsity since my freshman year in high school. We took second in section finals my freshman and sophomore years. I was team captain for two of my club seasons.

I love learning and I have thoroughly studied every position, so I can find new ways to better my game.  When I am playing outside or right-side, I love to use all of my available shots and really make the opposing team move!  As a blocker, I pay very close attention to the angle of the hitter, without forgetting about my team's game plan (always block cross no matter what).  I focus on this so I can make it easier on my defense.

Defense and serve receive is one of my favorite things to do on the court. I love anticipating the ball and getting up those crazy shots. My favorite part about playing back row is passing a great ball to my setter and watching the magic happen in the front row.  Serving is one of my strongest assets.  I have aggressive serves and I really enjoy the challenge of spot serving.  My main goal when I get on to the court is to do whatever I can to help my teammates and better the ball.

I enjoy being part of a team and I strive to be a good teammate and leader on and off the court.   In my spare time, I like to be with my friends and family as well as being involved in various service projects.  Service work is very important to me and I feel fortunate to be able to give back.  My busy schedule keeps me accountable and disciplined and I like it that way.  My goal is for my hard work and preparation to pay off and I can follow my dream to play in college at the highest competitive level possible.  At this point, I am open to all types of schools and locations.  The most important thing is to find the right fit.

I am so excited to move forward in pursuing a future in college volleyball!
