The 49ers reached the NFC Championship Game each of the previous two seasons and lost both times. However, those matchups occurred on the road. This year, San Francisco will host the conference title matchup if it gets there, because it's the No. 1 seed.

The only way the Niners won't host the NFC Championship Game is if they get upset by the Packers. Meanwhile, there's no way Green Bay plays at home during the playoffs, as it is the No. 7 seed and was the final NFC team to get into the postseason.

If the Packers pull off an upset, then either the Lions or the Buccaneers would be the home team in the NFC title matchup. Tampa Bay hasn't hosted the game since the 1979 season, as it was on the road for each of its previous three appearances. Detroit has never hosted it.

In fact, the Lions have reached the NFC Championship Game only once before. They made it there during the 1991 season, then lost to Washington.

This will also be Detroit's first appearance in the divisional round since that 1991 campaign. It defeated Dallas to advance to the conference title matchup.

Tampa Bay and Green Bay both went 9-8 during the regular season, but each appears to be playing well at the right time. The Bucs have won five of their past six games after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles in the wild-card round, while the Packers extended their winning streak to four by opening the playoffs with a victory over the Cowboys.
