The hair care industry mourns the loss of the famous hairstylist, who passed away on December 23, 2022, after being diagnosed with stage two pancreatic cancer. 

Nick Chavez started his career as a hairstylist in Southern California under the tutelage of a renowned stylist who had worked with several celebrities and high-profile clients. 

He later opened a salon in Beverly Hills and launched a hair care line, Nick Chavez Beverly Hills.

Nick Chavez was married to Alima, who is also a model and hairstylist. The couple had been together for several years before tying the knot. The couple does not have any children. 

Although they did not make their relationship public, they were known to be inseparable. 

Who was Nick Chavez? How did he rise to fame?

Nick Chavez was born into a Mexican-American family with Quechan and Yaqui Indian ancestors on December 16, 1956. 

He was the second oldest of seven children and grew up in a close-knit and proud family. One of his cousins was the famous human rights leader and founder of the United Farm Workers, Cesar Chavez.

In 1977, Nick Chavez began his career as a professional hairdresser as an apprentice in a salon in Beverly Hills, California. He quickly became a sought-after hairdresser among celebrities.

However, he temporarily put his hairstyling career on hold in the 1980s to pursue modeling and acting.

He worked with notable designers such as Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Saint Laurent, and appeared in Vogue, Elle, GQ, and Esquire magazines. 

He also acted in television shows Hollywood Detectives and The Young and the Restless.

In 1997, Nick returned to Beverly Hills and opened the Nick Chavez Salon, which quickly gained a star-studded clientele of celebrities and socialites. 

After struggling to find quality hair care products that catered to diverse hair types, Chavez developed his personal haircare and product line Nick Chavez Beverly Hills in 1999. 

The line slowly grew into a global brand with a decent following of customers.

Nick Chavez also made regular appearances on various television talk shows and reality shows as a hairdressing consultant. He appeared on Extreme Makeovers, The View, E! Fashion Emergency, and The Montel Williams Show. 

He became a fashion and beauty commentator and continued to work in the hair care industry until his death.

Nick Chavez had a net worth of $10 million before his death. 

He was a leading pioneer and spokesperson in the hair care industry, and his Beverly Hills salon attracted a range of high-profile clients, including Ivana Trump, Margeaux Hemmingway, Lisa Hartmann, Maria Shriver, George Lopez, Michelle Stafford, and Queen Noor.

Nick’s struggle with cancer

Nick Chavez revealed in March 2020 that he had been diagnosed with stage two pancreatic cancer. 

He began chemotherapy to shrink his tumor before surgery, and he was able to beat the disease. However, cancer returned, and Nick Chavez passed away after a courageous battle with the illness. 

Despite his struggles, Nick Chavez’s deepest passion was making both men and women feel good about themselves and their beauty. 

He collected his customers’ stories of hair loss from chemotherapy, despair, stress, and other medications to help them feel less alone in their struggles.

The hair care industry has lost a true pioneer and innovator. Despite his passing, his legacy and impact will continue to be felt for years to come.
