As he prepares for his fourth NFL season, New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson is hoping for a big year that will help him earn a new contract.

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo had high praise for Stevenson and is also hopeful he will get a new contract, per Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper.

"You know, we'll see," Mayo said. "I will say this about Rhamondre. I think he's one of the better backs in the league, it's no doubt about it. I think over the last few years, it's been kind of tough on him, as far as getting started. So, I'm excited to see what he does this season. And look, he's earned everything that he gets. He is our starting running back and hopefully we do get something done."

Stevenson, a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft, is optimistic about getting a new contract, per ESPN's Mike Reiss.

"Right now, I'm trying to get the deal done and get it locked in," Stevenson said. "We'll see where that goes. It's pretty close."

The 26-year-old had 619 rushing yards and four touchdowns in his third NFL campaign in 2023 while missing five games due to injuries. In his only 17-game season of his career, Stevenson impressed with 1,040 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

With last year's leading rusher Ezekiel Elliot back with the Dallas Cowboys this season, Stevenson will have a prime opportunity to make a major jump as the Patriots starter in the backfield. If he does, he could be due for a lucrative contract.
