The UFC is reportedly discussing adding a new fight between Brian Ortega and Diego Lopes to the card at UFC 303, per The MMA Hour's Ariel Helwani.
Helwani also reported that UFC 303's co-main fight between Jamahal Hill and Carlos Ulberg could need a replacement.
The report comes as the fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler faces uncertainty. It seems the event will be canceled as the UFC is reportedly "burning the midnight oil trying to find a replacement solution," though there is not a plan in motion yet.
McGregor has not fought since 2021 and was set to make his return at UFC 303, but it's unclear if his fight will remain on the card. Uncertainty around the fight arose earlier last week when the UFC suddenly canceled a press conference in Dublin, Ireland.
Khalil Rountree Jr. was originally slated to fight Jamahal Hill at UFC 303, but after being disqualified for testing positive for a banned substance in May, Ulberg stepped in to fill the role and take on Hill.
It's not clear whether a fight between Ortega and Lopes would replace Hill vs. Ulberg as the co-main event if that fight is replaced, but the UFC might not have another option as UFC 303 looms in just a few weeks.
What was slated to be an exciting UFC 303 on June 29 has quickly turned to chaos with events threatening to be canceled, and the UFC is now nearing panic mode to make adjustments at the last minute.
