The wrestling business has reached unprecedented heights in recent years with the rise of AEW, but WWE remains the top player in the game. With that said, the company has several potential dream matches it must book to capitalize on all the momentum.
While the WWE Universe already has the potential Bloodline implosion between The Rock and Roman Reigns on its collective mind, other once-in-a-lifetime matchups could make a WrestleMania main event within reach.
Here are the most significant potential dream matches Triple H and WWE Creative must book.
Roman Reigns vs. The Rock
Since returning to WWE and taking a vested interest in the company—literally—Dwayne Johnson was a cornerstone character on the Road to WrestleMania 40 and remains a pivotal piece in the long-term storytelling surrounding The Bloodline.
Dubbing himself the Final Boss, The Rock's work as a heel was one of the best parts of WWE programming leading into the April premium live event, but the subtle teases of dissension between the Tribal Chief and his cousin were palpable by the end.
Add turmoil within the Bloodline, with both Reigns and Johnson away from WWE television on a week-to-week basis, and the groundwork has already been laid for a potential feud and dream match between the two Samoan standouts.
The only stage worthy of such a marquee matchup would be WrestleMania, and with the 2025 version of the two-day event emanating from Las Vegas, WWE should pull out all the stops to book The Rock vs. Reigns next year.
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. CM Punk
While a matchup between The Rock and Reigns is more likely, the biggest possible dream match WWE can book would be a showdown between trash-talking legends CM Punk and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.
For many, Punk vs. Austin was always a dream match, based solely on the potential promos leading up to the bout. The excitement level was elevated after Jim Ross hosted a tense sit-down interview about the WWE 13 video game between the two men in October 2012.
The war between Punk and Austin looked like a pipedream after the former's unceremonious departure from WWE, but a return a decade later has sparked new interest. Stone Cold stoked the flames when ESPN asked him about the potential bout, saying, "I like Punk, and I think Punk likes me — so, as long as he can take a Stunner. I consider him a great friend, a great guy and a great wrestler who's had a great career. We'll see."
As seen with Austin's involvement with Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38, the Texas Rattlesnake can still work in the ring. And while Punk has been injury-prone since returning to wrestling, WWE can protect both with minimal contact on the road to their match.
With WWE running two-day WrestleMania events, there has been a need for marquee main events to warrant the exorbitant cost of tickets. Whether it is the 2025 or 2026 edition of the April PLE, WWE must book Punk vs. Austin before it's too late.
Gunther vs. Brock Lesnar
Before the controversy that surrounded Brock Lesnar associated with the Vince McMahon sexual harassment case, the writing was on the wall for an eventual Hoss Fight between former Intercontinental champion Gunther and The Beast.
While Lesnar has been relegated to an afterthought with WWE ignoring him, Gunther continues to talk about the potential dream match. With the Superstar not giving up the ghost, there is still hope the bout comes to fruition.
In November, Gunther told Under the Ring (h/t Fightful) that the potential battle against the WWE and UFC legend was "definitely a match I want to have and I want to do. I feel Brock is somebody, I just make it my thing, I make him my personal End Boss."
The battle would be extremely violent, with two of the strongest men in WWE working to beat each other to a pulp. Lesnar has been criticized at times for how he works with specific talent—namely Dean Ambrose—but he will likely do the right thing in this situation and put over Gunther, cementing his place as a legitimate top threat to a world title.
