Born on September 25, 1938, in Scranton, North Carolina, Ruby was the daughter of the late Conrade Holloway, Sr. and Mary Frances Silverthorne Holloway. She was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia, Class of 1956. She retired as a Clothing Buyer with the Department of the Navy, Norfolk Virginia with more than 25 years.

Ruby is survived by her daughter Antoinette Pruden of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two sons Michael (Lisa) of Suffolk, Virginia and Marvin of Virginia Beach, Virginia; brother Conrade Holloway, Jr. (Mabel) of Radcliffe, Kentucky; four grandchildren Christopher, Kendall, Kara, and Stephen; one great grandson Mateo; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She had a special relationship with her “sister-cousin” Sarah Wood.

She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Jesse Jackson, Jr., her beloved grandson Karlton Pruden, Jr., one brother Robert Silverthorne and six sisters Alice Lucille Hartwell, Zelma Harvey, Lillie Greene, Dorothy Robinson, Thelma Sauls, and Victoria Credle.

Ruby was a woman of great faith in God and loved the Lord. She loved life, and the simple joys it brought, that most of us overlook. She and Jesse loved to travel and took many cruises to the Caribbean. She was a lifelong member of The Historic Queen Street Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia where she served faithfully as the Church Secretary and Head of the Usher Board. She was a proud member of the Norfolk Chapter of Club Dejouir, a community service organization, for over 40 years and she loved her Dejouir sisters. We give God blessings and honor, glory and power, praises and thanks for sharing Ruby. Her strength and guidance will be missed by all who knew and loved her, as we celebrate her life.
