Ryan Peniston was merely a year old when he was diagnosed with soft tissue cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma. His parents discovered cancer after finding a lump growing on his thumb.
After the diagnosis, he spent nearly eight months at a hospital where he underwent surgery and two rounds of chemotherapy.
Peniston became cancer-free within 18 months due to the early discovery. However, the treatment also came with side effects.
Ryan has a large abdomen scar that remains from the surgery. Likewise, he also suffered from impaired physical growth until the age of 16.
Initially, he was about a foot smaller than other kids of his age group. But, in time, his body witnessed rapid growth spurts and he reached to the physical height of six feet.
The young athlete hasn't let his former health condition hinder his path to success. Instead, it helped him become a stronger person. Peniston remains humble to his roots and believes in giving back to society. He regularly gets involved in charity works and donates a portion of his earnings to the less fortunate.
