Annie L. Hudgins, 97, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023 in Norfolk, Virginia. She was born on October 2, 1926 in Beaufort County, North Carolina to the late William B. Smith, Sr and Julia Moore Smith.  She married Andrew J. Hudgins, Sr. in 1944 and remained a devoted wife until his death in 1990. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Nelson Hudgins, Sr., (Yvonna) of Austin TX, Bryantie Harris (Larry) of Petersburg, VA, and Roy D. Hudgins, Sr. (Margarita) of Hertford, NC; her grandchildren, a devoted grandson, Andrew J. Hudgins, III (Marva); Nelson Hudgins, Jr. (Debra), Bartholomew Hudgins, Dominique Hudgins, Naomi Hudgins, Auburn Harris (Sandrina), Brian Harris (Michelle), Larry Harris (Dana), Jr., Loretta Harris-Beechaum (Sean), Malcolm Harris, Marcus Harris (Veronica), Krystal Harris, Roy Hudgins, Jr. (Sophia), Shonda Hudgins, and Tia Hudgins-Reid (Steven); her siblings Helen S. Jewett, Christopher C. Smith both of Norfolk, VA, Belma Stewart (Columbus Moore), Sadie Sheppard both of Blounts Creek, NC, and Vandella Jordan of New York, NY; 38 great-grandchildren, and spiritual daughter Cynthia Jones; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Annie was predeceased by her son, Andrew J. Hudgins, Jr.; granddaughter, Lisa Hudgins Palmer; great granddaughter, Dashani Perry; siblings, Lucille Kirkland, William B. Smith Jr., Susie A. Smith, Norman Smith, and Hardy Smith; and her spiritual daughter, Dorothy Vass. Annie was a long-time member and deacon of Rock Church. In her 80s, she was ordained to spread the gospel. She was an avid reader of the bible and loved staying alert by working on word-search puzzles. She was a wonderful cook and always opened her home to family and friends. Although she is no longer with us, her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of those who loved her. She will always be remembered as someone that was beautiful both inside and out, and her impact on the lives of those she touched will never be forgotten.
