Shedeur Sanders' odds of being the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft are already dropping.
DraftKings Sportsbook now lists Sanders as the +300 favorite to be taken with the top pick next year, down from him opening at +100. The odds drop coincided with Sanders calling former teammate Xavier Smith "mid" on social media.
Shedeur Sanders @ShedeurSandersIon even remember him tbh. Bro had to be very mid at best. <a href="">
It's unlikely DraftKings' adjustment had any direct relation to one tweet. It's far more likely the book shifted its odds to be more in line with other books, which have Sanders listed at higher odds to go No. 1.
FanDuel Sportsbook currently lists Sanders at +500. Rather than being the favorite, Sanders is in a three-way tie with Georgia quarterback Carson Beck and Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers.
Sanders threw for 3,270 yards and 27 touchdowns against three interceptions in his first season at Colorado. After receiving Heisman buzz early in the season, Sanders faded a bit into the background as the Buffaloes lost eight of their last nine games.
While Sanders was rarely at fault for those losses, he's not a perfect quarterback prospect. He hasn't shown much of a feel for scrambling outside the pocket, and his consistency needs work on intermediate throws. If Sanders would have entered the 2024 NFL draft, the overwhelming odds are he would have been the fifth, sixth or seventh quarterback taken.
The 2025 quarterback class is seen as a step down in comparison to their 2024 counterparts, so that could work in Sanders' favor. That said, he's likely going to need to develop thicker skin now that Colorado is no longer an internet darling and is carrying actual expectations heading into next season.
