Projected cuts

With Maurice Hurt on the physically unable to perform list and Jarvis Jenkins and Rob Jackson suspended, the Redskins will only need to cut 19 more players. Here's our best guess in that regard:

  • Pat White: He's been a yeoman this summer, but there's no room. They need the veteran Rex Grossman behind the two injured sophomores under center.
  • Evan Royster: I'm giving Keiland Williams the nod here after a solid preseason. I think Chris Thompson also makes the team ahead of Royster because of his ability as a returner.
  • Jawan Jamison: He only earned 10 preseason snaps.
  • Dezmon Briscoe: If they keep six receivers, he should make it. It's a toss-up, but I don't think the 'Skins are overly confident in him at this point.
  • Lance Lewis: Lewis hasn't been bad at all this preseason, but he's probably headed to the practice squad.
  • Skye Dawson: Barely saw the field during the preseason.
  • Nick Williams: I don't believe he did enough to make the team as a receiver, but he'd be perfect for the practice squad. Chris Thompson is the better option on special teams.
  • Niles Paul: This team just doesn't need nor have room for four tight ends. His time is up.
  • Xavier Nixon: The undrafted free agent didn't do enough in the preseason to unseat veteran Tony Pashos or the solid Tom Compton. Compton was particularly solid.
  • Kevin Matthews: He's got good bloodlines and performed OK this month but the 'Skins have too many quality guards who can move over to center in a pinch.
  • Tevita Stevens: The Utah product is just a camp body.
  • Dominique Hamilton: He had an opportunity with all of those defensive line injuries, but he didn't do enough to jump ahead of Chris Baker or Phillip Merling.
  • Ron Brace: A lack of preseason work indicates the 'Skins don't feel strongly about Brace or...
  • Chigbo Anunoby: An undrafted free agent with only 14 snaps in three preseason games. He's only still on the roster because Barry Cofield is hurt.
  • Vic So'oto: He hasn't made any plays, which isn't good when you're an outside linebacker trying to earn a spot on a 3-4 defense. He was done when they signed Nick Barnett.
  • Marvin Burdette: Only 14 preseason snaps for the UDFA.
  • Will Compton: Another undrafted free agent who faced the same problem as Burdette. I'd like to see him on the practice squad though.
  • Jerome Murphy: Wouldn't be shocked if he made the team. Murphy has had a solid month, but I just don't see space for him.
  • Jose Gumbs: Only another Brandon Meriweather injury or a surprise cut to Reed Doughty, DeJon Gomes or Jordan Pugh would save Gumbs now.
