Eric B. & Rakim are one of the most influential duos in hip-hop history, known for elevating the lyrical and musical standards of the genre during the late 1980s. However, like many partnerships, they faced their ups and downs.

The duo parted ways in 1992 after releasing their fourth album, “Don’t Sweat the Technique”. The reasons behind their breakup were somewhat unclear but generally revolved around creative differences, financial disputes, and the changing landscape of hip-hop at the time.

Post-breakup, there were legal disputes over the rights to the name “Eric B. & Rakim” and back royalties. Rakim pursued a solo career, and while he maintained his reputation as one of the best lyricists in hip-hop, commercial success was more elusive without Eric B.’s production.

In subsequent years, both members occasionally hinted at bad blood and disagreements in various interviews, but details remained scarce, with neither publicly denouncing the other.

Fortunately, time seemed to heal the wounds. In 2016, they reconciled and announced a reunion tour in 2017, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their debut album, “Paid in Full.” Their reconciliation was a treat for fans who longed to see the iconic duo share the stage again.
