Personal Statement
My collegiate goals are to obtain a degree and be academically successful. I would like to use my education to be self-sufficient and successful in my career choice. During my middle and high school years I have been a two sport, scholar athlete, maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or above. In addition to playing sports for Bassett High School, I have also played both fall and spring sessions on Travel Soccer Teams with the PYSL Hurricanes. I also played for a local travel basketball team, the Southside Stars, for six years. These experiences have forced me to learn successful time management skills which will be beneficial with my future goals. I feel the skill sets for soccer and basketball compliment each other, making me a better athlete. I was elected Co-captain by my teammates for both teams during my sophomore year, which demonstrates my teammate's confidence in my ability to lead. I am also a member of the high school fishing team which has taught me patience and determination. In addition to playing, I also officiate youth soccer matches at the recreational and travel level, giving me a unique perspective into the game from both the player's and official's view point.I was inducted into the BETA Club my freshman year and I was selected to be a Mentor for underclassman. I was also selected to be a member of CHILL, a community group which works to prevent underage drinking/smoking and to reduce the sell of products to minors. I would make a great addition to your sports program because of my unique skill set, my academic abilities and my desire to excel.
